The 10 inch Mayerne style priming knife is made specifically for applying grounds to canvas. Prime canvas evenly with minimal material. The curved blade fills canvas weave evenly with no ridges between strokes. Work faster, more easily, and with clean knuckles.
Handmade in Upstate New York. The flexible blade holds up to stiff oil grounds. There’s no cutting edge, and the tip is rounded. It only looks scary.

The high carbon steel does rust if left wet. Avoid immersing in water and store dry to reduce the risk of corrosion. Wipe the blade clean with a rag. Condition the handle with linseed oil if it looks thirsty.
